This Lexington institution has been growing and selling fresh produce for generations and has become a landmark in the western suburbs of Boston. BFE was commissioned to design a new structure that would fit with the farm and provide additional retail and preparation space. The new building was designed and built in the style of an eighteenth century New England barn with Port Orford cedar siding and oak floors. Benson Woodworking, a New Hampshire timber framing company, provided a timber frame of recycled Douglas fir. The timbers were recovered from an old mill structure, cut to new sizes, then connected with wooden pegs and splines. The overall feel is rustic, yet clean and simple showcasing of their produce.
